PYSÄHDYS
Pysähdys on elokuva siitä, että ihmisten välinen kommunikaatio ei ole helppo asia - sitä on usein joko liian vähän - tai liian myöhään.
En tiedä onko kaikissa leffoissa joku henkilökohtainen lähtökohta, ehkä.
Minun tekemisssäni ainakin on.
Pysähdys-lyhytelokuva sai alkunsa kun istuin raitiovaunussa ja näin pysäkillä muinaisen poikaystäväni venyttelemässä, juoksukamat päällä. Katseemme kohtasivat ja meidän oli alettava vaihtamaan kuulumisia. Pitkästä aikaa. Lasin läpi.
Tilanne meni liian kiharaiseksi kun yritin kertoa aloittaneeni tenniksen uudelleen, hän ei ymmärtänyt mitä yritin sanoa. Pääsin piinasta (ja huitomasta) kun ratikkani lähti liikkeelle ja mies jäi hämmentyneenä laiturille.
Entä jos ratikkani olisi pysynyt pysäkillä pitemmän aikaa? Olisinko jatkanut hankalaa kommunikaatiotamme vai luopunut yrittämästä?
Tilanteesta tuli parisuhteen metafora.
Pysähdys -lyhäri tehtiin pika-aikataululla. Se kuvattiin yhdessä lokaatiossa, Vallilan käyttämättömällä pysäkillä kahden aamupäivän aikana.
A HALT
It is a film about communication in a relationship. There is often too little of it, or too late.
I do not know if there has to be in every film a personal starting point, maybe.
At least in my films there is.
I was sitting on a tram that stopped and noticed an ancient boyfriend of mine standing and stretching his legs wearing running clothes on the tram stop. Our gazes met and we were forced to have a "conversation", exchange news. After a long time. Through the glass.
The situation became too hairy when I tried to tell him that I had started playing tennis again. He just did not get what I was trying to say. I was relieved from my torment when the tram started to move and he remained, somewhat perplexed, on the stop.
What if the tram had not moved? Would I have continued our awkward communication or just stopped trying?
In my mind the situation was a metaphor for the/a relationship.
A Halt is a film one could call a "quickie": shot on one location during two mornings.
